Nepali
carpet
The traditional Himalayan Nepali
design of carpet follows one of the most ancient and
exotic crafts from northern Nepal. This skill was
developed in the 7th century by east Turkistan, Mongolian,
Chinese and Tibetan nomads, which were modified by
Nepalese, with the inspiration of western designers
for the developed modern society of world. It provides
a wide range of design and color combinations, maintaining
their fine appearance. Every single motif has special
traditional meaning and significance.
Nepali
carpet weaving, keeping with centuries of tradition
and well-wrought skills, utilizes a simple vertical
loom. While weaving, a row of pile yarns are knotted
to the wrap yarns firstly. Next two weft yarns are
woven through the wrap. The knots and weft yarns are
then packed down tightly on previously woven rows
with a comb like device. After knotting several rows,
ends of pile yarns are cut to create and even rug
surface. The knotting process is then repeated. The
knot density of a Nepalese carpet ranges from 60,
80, 100 knots per square inch.
Every Nepali carpet is crafted to the highest standard
